Quiet and Close

Daily writing prompt
How do you celebrate holidays?

When the holiday season rolls around, I always feel a mix of excitement and comfort. For me, holidays aren’t about huge gatherings or elaborate parties—they’re about being close to the ones I hold dearest: my immediate family. Growing up, we didn’t always have big family get-togethers, so I’ve learned to treasure the time I spend with just my little circle.

While some people thrive on large family reunions, for me, there’s something special about keeping it simple. It’s quiet, it’s meaningful, and it’s all about creating memories with the people who are closest to my heart. Whether it’s Thanksgiving, Christmas, or any other holiday, our celebrations are less about grand gestures and more about enjoying each other’s company in a low-key, relaxed setting.

Our traditions aren’t complicated, but they’re ours. We’ll spend the day cooking together (everyone chipping in a little bit), listening to music, and simply enjoying the downtime. Sometimes we’ll throw on a holiday movie, snuggle up under some blankets, and just let the day unfold naturally. No pressure, no hustle, no stress.

I think there’s something magical about keeping holidays small and intimate. It gives us the chance to really focus on each other. There’s no rush, no distraction, just moments spent together. We’ll share stories, reminisce about the past year, and look forward to what’s ahead. And, of course, indulge in some good food!

Holidays for us are about creating a space of warmth and togetherness. The decorations are fun, the food is delicious, but at the heart of it, it’s the simple joy of being surrounded by the people I love most. And honestly, that’s enough for me.
