It’s funny isn’t it? We all spend all day keeping ourselves busy under the guise of having it all together. At night, we collapse into bed and wonder how much more we have to get done before we feel like we have made it somewhere. Exhaustion is a prevalent theme that seems to be never ending. You could sleep for a hundred years and wake up still exhausted because it’s not sleep we are lacking. It’s not sleep at all.
It’s completion. We are lacking completion. Each day we find a thousand tasks to do and at the end of the day we may complete every single one, but in that time another thousand have built up for the next day, the next week, the next month, the next year. We never make it to the end of that all important to do list. We never reach the end. It’s never let’s see what we CAN do next, its let’s see what we HAVE to do next. There in lies an all too important difference.
Seeking a break, a vacation, a temporary release from that…but it all waits. In the time we take to walk away even for a few short days even more things pile on that list that we can’t ever seem to get away from. So, when you hear all those complaints of tired from all those people around you and you wonder how can they possibly be as tired as you. It’s not sleep they’re missing, it’s the end of that list. There’s no end in sight and they’re tired of chasing an ending that is never going to come.
In the end though, having the right people by your side makes the exhaustion and the chase a little easier to bear. For just a few minutes, few hours here and there you can lay that exhaustion aside and forget that tomorrow brings with it new worries and tasks and just find a little comfort in the people around you. Don’t always seek sleep to recharge, seek the comfort of those just as weary as you, they need a smile and a break too.
